An unusual pencil grip isn't always a problem
Research comparing common pencil grips found they gave similar speed and neatness. What matters more is that writing is comfortable, readable and quick enough to keep up in class.
Try this: if your child writes without pain and can keep up, don't force a new grip. If it hurts or they tire quickly, that's worth a chat.
