わたしについて

Hi, I'm Wilfred

I'm an Occupational Therapist with a Master's degree, and a qualified teacher in both the UK and Hong Kong. Having worked in schools, I understand what children need to get through the school day, and how hard that day can be for a child who is struggling.

Sport has always been part of my work. I studied for my first degree at a UK university, then taught PE and coached sport for many years, with a focus on fundamental movement skills, including balance, coordination, and hand–eye skills like throwing and catching. I use sport and active play to help children build coordination, confidence and friendships, often without even noticing they're working hard.

I also understand what parents need: someone who listens, explains things clearly and helps everyone see your child's needs the same way. I work closely with teachers and SENCos so support isn't delayed.

I believe every child has the right and the ability to learn and improve. Everyday activities, and respecting what your child loves, are at the heart of how I work.

Still working in schools today

I haven't just taught in the past. I still teach in UK schools, so I see first-hand how they work now. That means I know:

  • how SEN support and the "assess, plan, do, review" cycle work in real classrooms
  • what SENCos and teachers need from an OT report, and what's realistic for them to do
  • how EHCPs are put together, so my reports speak the school's language
  • how to make recommendations that fit the timetable, the curriculum and the staff available
  • MSc Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registered OT
  • RCOT member
  • PGDE (Primary, SEN)
  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Hong Kong Registered Teacher
  • BSc (Hons) Sport Management, UK
  • PE teacher · fundamental movement skills
  • Enhanced DBS

基礎運動スキル

Fundamental movement skills

As a PE teacher, fundamental movement was the core of my lessons for young children. These are the building blocks for sport, play and everyday life, and the same skills many children who see an OT find hard. They fall into three groups:

MOVING

Locomotor skills

  • Walking
  • Running
  • Hopping
  • Jumping
  • Skipping
  • Galloping
  • Side-stepping
  • Climbing

Builds: leg strength, rhythm and coordination

BALANCE

Stability skills

  • Standing on one leg
  • Walking a beam
  • Turning
  • Twisting
  • Bending
  • Stretching
  • Rolling
  • Landing safely

Builds: balance, core strength and body control

BALL AND EQUIPMENT

Object control skills

  • Throwing
  • Catching
  • Kicking
  • Bouncing
  • Dribbling
  • Striking with a bat or racket

Builds: hand–eye and foot–eye coordination, and timing

Practised alongside them

Body awarenessKnowing where each part of the body is and how it moves.
Spatial awarenessJudging distance and direction, and keeping a safe space from people and objects.
Two sides working togetherUsing both sides of the body at once, as in skipping with a rope or star jumps.

I bring all of this into my Daruma Movers programme and into every assessment of balance and coordination.
